Tasua and Ashura, the 9th and the 10th day of Muharram, are days of mourning in Shia Islam to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
Tasua and Ashura ceremonies are cherished in many different countries, especially Iran because of their high concentrations of Shia Muslims. It is honored in most parts of Iran through different shows.
Shiite take part in processions and services of this month. They wear black during this period to signify the depth of their mourning.
Many of pious adherents begin mourning from the first night of Muharram and continue for ten nights, climaxing on Tasua and Ashura.
